Frequently Asked Questions

Why an EMDR Intensive model?

An EMDR intensive model allows for deep, focused processing in a condensed timeframe. Unlike weekly sessions, intensives reduce the stop-start nature of traditional therapy, helping clients make faster progress and experience relief sooner. This approach offers flexible scheduling, and can be tailored to meet specific goals efficiently. For busy individuals, it provides a powerful, time-effective path to healing without sacrificing depth or effectiveness. With the 3-Day Model offered here, you will get 6 hours of focused therapeutic work in 3 days rather than taking 6-12 weeks with a more traditional talk-therapy approach.

Can anyone do an EMDR Intensive?

The short answer is yes. Anyone seeking relief from symptoms of trauma, anxiety, depression, phobias, and/or relational struggles can benefit from EMDR Intensive therapy. However, if you are in active addiction, have active suicidal ideations, are in crisis, or lack an outside support system, EMDR Intensives might not be the right fit for you. Pax Counseling and Wellness will help determine your goodness of fit as an intensive candidate upon initial consultation.

What can I expect from my EMDR Intensive session?

With our current model, you can expect 3 days of intensive work which equates to six clinical hours of therapy. You might expect to experience temporary, short-term side-effects which can include increased experiencing of emotions, emotional sensitivity, fatigue, dreams/nightmares, or physical shaking as the body releases trauma. These are a natural part of the brain healing from the reprocessed trauma. To find out more about EMDR intensive offerings, click here.

Do you accept insurance?

At this time, Pax Counseling and Wellness is considered an out of network provider. Many insurance companies reimburse a portion of the cost of psychotherapy that you pay out of pocket. I can provide a monthly invoice for you to submit for reimbursement. This invoice is called a "superbill" by insurance companies. It is best for you to contact your insurance company and ask them about the out of network benefits they provide and to determine the exact details of your policy ahead of time. I do not submit any direct claims to insurance companies. You can call and ask your insurance company if they provide "out of network benefits for outpatient mental health services."
