What is a Superbill?
A superbill is an itemized receipt that I provide to you after your therapy session. It includes all the necessary information your insurance company needs to process an out-of-network reimbursement (if your plan covers that).
If your insurance plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, you may be able to submit the superbill to your insurance company and get reimbursed for a portion of the cost of your sessions.
A Superbill includes:
-
Your name and date of service
-
My name, license info, and NPI (National Provider Identifier)
-
CPT (billing) code for the session type
-
Diagnosis code (required by insurance)
-
Session fee you paid
Please note:
I do not bill insurance directly. You pay me at the time of service.
Submitting a superbill is your choice and responsibility.
Reimbursement is not guaranteed—it depends on your specific plan.
How to use a superbill:
-
Call your insurance to ask:
-
"Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health?"
-
"Do I need to meet a deductible first?"
-
"What is the reimbursement rate?"
-
-
Submit the superbill (via mail, fax, or your insurance portal).
-
Wait for reimbursement—they usually send a check or direct deposit if approved.
